Hi,
I was just having a discussion with a friend about some emails that a program I'm writing was generating and we started talking about the unsubscribe functionality. Why, because in Australia (I don't know about other nations) it is illegal to send an email that does not have an unsubscribe facility.
Under the Spam Act 2003, every commercial electronic message must contain a functional and legitimate 'unsubscribe' facility. This is an electronic address the recipient can use to tell the sender they do not wish to receive messages.
We were talking about the different ways that this can be done, from a link in the email, to the list-unsubscribe header in the email.
I was going through my inbox pointing out the different ways that this was done, when we noticed that the emails from SCN did not contain any sort of unsubscribe function.
Whilst SCN is not an Australian company it doesn't need to comply with Australian law, however I do believe it might fall foul of the CAN-SPAM legislation if under US jurisdiction.
I believe a simple (visit http://scn.sap.com/user-preferences!input.jspa (or similar) to change your email subscriptions and preferences) would suffice. It' would certainly be appreciated to be able to unsubscribe from the thread just from an email.
Cheers,
Chris
